What is Horizon?

VMware is one of the main players in the field of virtualization and has provided many products in this regard.
One of these products is Horizon View, which performs desktop virtualization.
In this article, we will fully introduce this technology to you and everything you need to know about it.
We also mention the new features added in version 7.2 of this product.

Horizon is a virtualization system that is installed and set up for users.
This device is considered a computer software and hardware, which is one of the reasons for using it is its high capabilities.
By using this system and assigning each VDI to each user and purchasing the equipment needed for its infrastructure, you no longer have to worry about the lack of computer hardware or important office software.
Among its advantages, we can mention this section that provides a suitable space for the user and this section can be controlled, therefore it is possible to create access to the environment outside the relevant organization and office.
This product is one of the most powerful desktop virtualization products. Which creates a unique desktop for each user according to the unique capabilities.
This service is more practical in companies and offices that have a large number of users and each of them needs a separate system.

How does Horizon work?

This system, by properly filtering the operating system, profiles, softwares, etc., users’ information and data in separate layers, helps a lot in better managing the desktop, and desktops are created according to the needs of users and working conditions, personal needs and settings.
This software allows its users to place their desktop on the LAN or WAN environment using its flagship protocols (RDP, PCOIP).
Users can access their desktop with the help of various devices such as tablets, thin clients, mobile phones, etc., and all aspects of organizational safety and security are also implemented.
Therefore, this section can be accessed from any place and with any device. For this, it is enough to turn on the Internet or the internal network of your device.

First of all, let me give a general definition about Workspace ONE Mode, it is a platform that allows you to connect to your desktops in Cloud format in a very safe and simple way, as well as in VDI.
With this option, you can set that only software and desktops are available on your Workspace portal in this version of Horizon.
You enable this option on the Connection server and when users in Horizon Client connect to your Connection server, the users’ requests are redirected to your portal.

In this version, you can recreate your cars in Instant-Clone Pools and reassign all Assignments to that car.

By this option, the virtual machines created in the Instant-clone Pool take all the settings related to the graphics from the Snapshot related to the original Template.
As you can see in the image below, all settings related to SVGA are inherited from Parent, which is the same machine as Template.

In this version, there is no more information about ADM, policy files in Horizon are all converted to ADMX. It has made it easier to manage policies, all policies are applied from a central place.

In cases where you use Cloud pod, in this Horizon 7.2 version, it supports a maximum of 120,000 connections on 12 View pods and in 5 sites.
And they also support a maximum of 4000 desktops with one vCenter in the form of Linked-Clone, Instant-Clone and Full clone.

In this version, you can use Local Storage to create Instant-Clone machines.

Horizon 7.2 adds encryption support to this product and also improves Storage policy-based management.

This allows administrators to have more control over users.
And they can automatically apply many Horizon 7 features based on User, Device and even Location.
Currently, in this version of horizon, this is possible for software published by RDSH, which is done by tags.

After placing the Tag in the Connection server field for the relevant Pool, enter the User Environment Manager and create a Smart Policy

The next step is to set the condition, for example, if the Tag related to Pool is equal to External

Or even more professionally, you can say that these policies should be applied to the software in a pool with the Tag, for example, External, and also for example, in the pool name that has the word secure.
